Girls In Black
a.k.a. Black is slimming
05.16.2015 - 05.16.2015
I don't know why we worry so much about how fat we look but..we do. Our room is a bit messy today and the reason is .... We don't know what to wear. We are feeling a bit pudgy and everything is coming out of the suitcase...blue, red, prints, geometrics..colors all over the place...on they go..off they come! We both decide on black..we look slimmest in black..not thrilled with how we look but it is what it is. You would think we would watch what we eat when we have issues with pudginess...but hunger takes over, we throw caution to the wind (we do look slimmer..remember? The black outfits?). It's bacon, egg and cheese sandwiches, hot coffee and we are on the way to Balboa Island. It's a quaint little island with little boutiques, eateries and ice cream stands. We browse and walk along the pier looking at the beautiful little beach houses with their immaculate little gardens. We fall in love with the the gardens and plants we see along the way.
We take the ferry to Balboa Village which actually takes us thru a "kid zone" complete with kids and Ferris wheel. We get thru that area In less than 2 minutes. A walk to the pier and to the beach and we are ready for the rebound on the ferry. A few more shops and a stop at "Dad's" for a Balboa Bar and a chocolate-dipped frozen banana which Balboa Island is famous for.
It's sunny and a bit warmer now and we are looking forward to some sun and a dip in the pool. Since it's not as warm as we thought, we opt for the hot tub. Aaah...that feels great..our dogs are barking and this is just perfect. We do a bit of sunbathing and choose to eat at the hotel for dinner. SHOR SEAFOOD GRILL is a well known restaurant here and very popular. The menu looks great. Starters: Calamari with Marconi almonds, Fresno chilis, romonesco fried lemons. We also ordered fried Brussels sprouts with maple bacon and Gorgonzola vinigrette. Warm bread is served with a citrus fennel butter. Entres: we both enjoyed the Campbell River Salmon with smoked paprika vinigrette, corn and crispy chickpeas. Can you say yummy deliciousness! Although the dessert menu looked fabulous as well, we practiced some restraint and just finished with coffee. After all, tomorrow is another day and we may choose not to wear black.
