We start the day with a tour of San Diego. Old Town Trolley Tours take us to several points of interest in this city. Our first stop is Balboa Park, the largest urban cultural park in the nation. beautiful gardens, several performing art venues and home to 15 major museums. Susie, our guide tells us these Spanish-Renaisannce style buildings were originally constructed for the 1915 Panama-California Exposition. Another Exhibition was held years later to boost the local economy during the depression.

We are back on the trolley, this time with Capt. Bob, and off to Old Town San Diego, a beautiful living museum in the style of Williamsburgh in Virginia.
It represents life back in the day when the Indians lived here. People in period costume, tinsmiths, a general store, tannery, etc. Mexican eateries all over the place where we enjoy delicious burritos and churros for dessert. On the next trolley, we meet "Tony" our driver and guide who reminds us of John Candy. His large frame and terrible singing voice just make us laugh. He plays tapes of John Wayne's voice giving us "pilgrims" safety rules on this trolley ride. Sort of "OSHA" in the Wild West.

Tony takes us down to the Embarcadero where the aircraft carrier, Midway, turned museum , and naval yard is located. Tony now plays the "Halls of Montezuma" tape and we all sing along-! "SEMPRE FE"! Thank you for your service, we enjoy the freedom and we know you all paid a lot for that! There is a small section next to the Midway where there is a large statue of that famous photo of "THE KISS" located there..beautifully done. Also a Bob Hope Memorial with his voice giving a speech to the "boys" in this park. Very nicely done and both Erica and I were very glad we got to see this. We walk to Seaport Village from here for a bit of retail therapy and hop on the next trolley for the ride thru the Gaslamp District where there are lots of restaurants and also Horton Plaza, a shopping mall. We head to the Ferry Landing on Coronado Island for a great photo op of San Diego and a bit more retail therapy. Its been a long interesting day and we are in the mood for a relaxing bite to eat. We head for the Market restaurant at the hotel where we decide on salads...after those burritos and churros.. and Prosecco to help unwind.... Which it did...and for some reason we got lost in the hotel and couldn't seem to find our room...brought tears to our eyes from laughing so hard...well...never mind...you had to be there...
