A day in Wellfleet

....the old familiar places...

overcast

Our first day here and the plan is to head to Wellfleet to "schmy" as Bevie calls it. We four girls are the adventurous types and on a suggestion from one of the peanut gallery...."the scenic" route...might be nice. We decide to try it...which lasts two minutes since we took the wrong turn...but.......who cares....we are on vacation. We basically just went around the block and we're on Route 6 again before we know it.

To Wellfleet! The first thing we notice is that my favorite shop Francis, Francis has moved to a new location and an art gallery has moved into Its old space. We decide to check out Off Center, another shop we visit each year, when a very well-dressed woman catches our eye. We tell her she looks mahvelous and Jane mentions that she loves her pants. She says she got them at Francis, Francis ...which has moved across the street...just follow her. We do and we are all giddy with excitement. The shop is gorgoeous and has upgraded several levels ...including price points. Jane has the pants in hand already (and won't let go) and somehow we all end up in dressing rooms trying on several fabulous outfits with fabulou prices..except for Bevie who is trying on shoes. We actually were looking to purchase a cane for Bevie since her leg was bothering her and she was having a hard time walking ...but....we got sidetracked for a moment. The shoes are keeping her occupied right now and we will get that cane as soon as we're done here. Jo looks great in everything ...finds a wonderful outfit. Jane..gets "the pants" and also looks fabulous and Bevie.....finds a pair of shoes that actually makes the leg feel better! No need for a cane! And.... I'm still shopping...nothing is screaming "buy me" at the moment.

We move on to a few more stores, we check out the old location of Francis, Francis ...now a new art gallery called Off Main Gallery. One of the artists featured...Nancy Nicol was manning the shop today. She paints interesting oils... beach and shell fish pieces are her passion. She is also the mastermind behind the displays in the studio.

We make a few more purchases and work up an appetite. Off to Pearl (a great place to lunch) for fish tacos, salads, fish platters and of course, wine.

Back at the house we relax with the boys on the porch, share stories of our trips to France and everything else that pops into our heads... then take a stroll into P-town. With cameras in hand Jane and I capture the beauty of Commercial Street as we go.

There have been a few new changes we notice right away...a new house or two built right smack in the middle of all the old familiar places we've been seeing for years, some refurbishing on the weathered summer homes we love to look at when we're in town, new upscale shops replace some of the old, more high end galleries popping up here and there and new construction right across the street from us.....Condos!. It's still the wonderful place we know and love but, you know that song...? "times they are a changing...."

A nice walk on the Wharf, a bus ride back to the house and another great day in our "family" history.
