There's nothing like someone saying to you "just want to let you know" an hour before you are leaving for a weeks vacation...especially to another state. I have to work a half day today and then my vacation officially starts. Everything is ready, things are going well, I'm getting ready to close out the daily financial statement, our bags are already in the car and we plan to hit the road for our long drive out to Cape Cod by 1:30. In comes a customer and asks if that's my car out there to which I hesitantly reply...."ye..ess" while my mind is flipping through several possible scenarios of why he's asking me this question. He's the one who tells me "I just want to let you know that your inspection expired in June." Today is July 22. Whaaaat??? I run out to check and sure enough.... EXPIRED!" Five phone calls later to local auto places, two are closed and 3 are booked....I'm out of options. As I'm locking the door, Helen, the librarian in our building, wishes me a great vacation. I tell her I'm off to a great start and tell her of my situation. She says..."wait a minute! Let me call my guy and see if he's around. He goes to the lake house on the weekends and may not be open today but if he's home...he's working." Five rings later he answers the phone...Helen works her magic and says "he's working but leaving for the lake house in 20 minutes. I'll take your car and be right back. Ok with me! She is back, car inspected by 12:30 and we are on the road to Cape Cod by 1:45! Note to self...a thank you gift for Helen, lifesaver of the day! Smooth sailing and we arrive at 665 Commercial Street in 5 1/2 hours.

We walk in just as Dennis & Jane, Bevie, Doug and Jo are preparing for dinner....perfect timing. We catch up at the dinner table and a few of us head to in to say our hello to P-town. Due to my little "surprise" this morning with the inspection sticker..I was rushing when I got home...jumped into flip-flops and left my walking shoes right by the door. So, my mission tonight,,,buy a new pair of walking shoes. Denny needed a pair of sneakers so...this was our perfect opportunity!

With new shoes in hand we head for home...Good to be here!
