Basilica Farm & Flea
Buy Local, Vintage and Handmade
11.27.2015 - 11.29.2015
Take an old factory warehouse, pair it with Basilica Hudson, a non-profit art center and The Hudson River Exchange and what do you get? A unique art and performing venue while fostering sustainable community. Originally a forge and foundry for steel railway wheels, later turned glue factory, this building has been stripped down to its architectural bones. What catches my eye are the industrial windows which give wonderful light to a large space while the brick walls add a special ambiance . Several events are scheduled from Spring through Fall. Weddings are held here, concerts, and rumor has it...even ice skating was attempted one cold winter. Industrial wasteland meets rural tranquility.
Basilica Farm & Flea is in its third year and is the largest event to date reflecting the vibrant and oddball community that is Hudson. The goal is to highlight the abundance of the small, authentic businesses located in the Hudson Valley. Thanksgiving weekend vs. Black Friday "big box" holiday shopping in an effort to support and sustain the local economy.
The line is long but worth the wait. Once inside there are workshops, handmade and vintage goods, farm-fresh food. Enjoy tastings from cheese mongers, distilleries, breweries, charcuterie, coffee and sweets. There is an oyster bar... and homemade soups and sandwiches if you are looking for more than a tasting. The crafts are one-of-a-kind, unique and beautiful..everything from jewelry, soaps, clothing, wood and ceramics to gardening, plants, wreaths and handmade cards and medicinals. The list goes on.
A wonderful experience. Long live good community! Stay strange but don't be a stranger, a good man once said.
