Big Fat Yellow Moon
McMillan Pier
07.23.2015 - 08.01.2015
Coffee time for me is at 5:00 this morning. I'm trying to absorb the last days of summer vacation in this wonderland. The shutterbug in me is looking for seals and snapping pics of everything in sight. You cannot have too many photos...I need them to get me through the cold, harsh New York winter.
Dennis makes an announcement that he'd like to gather the group and get to town to buy us our annual T-shirts. Every year he treats us to a Ptown shirt at the Birdie gallery...which we love. We are all excited and are front and center and ready for this years shopping trip. There is a new print every year but this one, so far, is a fave. It's a print of ...you guessed it...Provincetown -colorized... a nice touch. They have a very nice selection here and I'm just thrilled to have this added to my collection. Thank you, Dennis! Very thoughtful and much appreciated. Each shirt I've received over the years has special meaning and holds wonderful memories of our yearly vacation.
The group returns to the house...for some, to get out of the heat and for others, to get into the sun. For Ricky and I..it's our time to take a ride to the Jetty and to the memorial garden on the East End. We love the jetty and all its surroundings and love reading the stones in the memorial garden. Today, the skies are clear and crisp and the scenery is the best I've seen so far. A kayaking lesson going out in the salt Marsch....colorful! The combinations of color is eye-catching, tan sand dunes, clear blue skies, deep green salt marches with rivers of deep blue water running through them ...and those red kayaks..! Beautiful!
On to the memorial garden where we spend some time reading the plaques laid there in memory of loved ones. The garden faces the Jetty and looks out to the lighthouse. It has several benches and shrubs surrounding the garden. Each plaque is special...some have names of loved ones, some have special moments recorded on them and others, my favorites, have quotes. You can spend quite a bit of time here, just relaxing and reading....brings home the point that the time of your life...is now. The midday sun is beaming down and it is getting very hot. Time to cool off and. get back to the house to jump into the water. Jane is already in the sun, Dougie, Dennis and Jo..on their computers and Bevie is in the kitchen. Ricky makes himself comfy on the porch with his book about James Cagney and I jump into my swimsuit and join Jane in the sun. It's not long before we hit the water on our floation devices and cool off in the water. We start talking about the seals which are in the Bay this year, which leads us to talk about the sharks that the seals bring in, which drives is back on to the deck. Bevie brings us refreshment...Cosmos, Wine and a cheese plate. There is talk from the group that a dinner at Fanuzzis By The Bay would be nice tonight. Jo decides to leave for home today so she's opting out...the rest of us are in.
Before dinner we start the gathering of our belongings from our week living at our beach house. The floatation devices are deflated...more work than we thought. We all start some of our packing so we don't have to do it when we return tonight. It's a good start. All dressed up and ready for dinner.
We enjoy our "last supper" together as well as our last stroll into town tonight. There is going to be a full moon tonight. After Jane makes her annual purchase of fudge at the Pennypatch for her mom. we stroll along McMillan Pier for some photos of the moon. I've always loved it...a big fat yellow moon...a beauty and a perfect ending to a wonderful week...with friends.
